We are the boss;Read all about Smitta's eventful life

Social Scene

smitta

So, last Sato.

My best comradio Marto Oduor rolled by our place Vlad Central in South C and up we went to LA where as he got his ride fixed for a trip to Naks, we sat at Rafikiz n watched the Liverfools get fixed, again!

We also watched a hen geng-beng on a Wassup vid, n a kid who is like five but knows too many prezzos of the world (even our Uhunye, she knows, enuff to make a man swear, even me, clever dot’e Chelski wudn’t stand a chance up her in histo olatho).

Then we rolled to Teasers pub – this lovely, hidden-away ‘lunje’ joint twixt Ngumo n Ngong’ Road, for first half of Goon game. Here we met the one n only Papa Shirandullah, emerging from a Noah and in a great mood; looking right at home in the gravel, tent n green tree ambience of the place.

“This is where successful Luhyas kuja to hide from theya kinsmen,” he joked. And like a zealous watchie, he was there to un-earth these murembes.

Wanyama, once he’s back nyumbani from his goal scoring exploits for Southampton, shud make it a point to pitia by the Teasers.

If he’s lucky, he’ll find the very coolest hombres like Senator George Khaniri, the way we did, n they bond. I really like the way Senator GK is just really totally cool, in his jeanekas, like a Sunday morn, n full of camaraderie. Wakina Ma-DvD may be lately in all sortsa drama, fukuzaing folks n so on. GK, he easy!

From there, Martin Godfree n I took our hearts to Atlantis in Hurlingham, to catch a Jameson n second half of the Chelsea game.

There waz a bunch of dudes yelling their heads off, singing old skool songs, during da game. Kumbe twas Alliance (Bush) boyz class of two-oh-four (guys like Limo Kipkemboi, Elisha Arunga n Eddah K) in a re-union organised by me poet buddy, the Divine Bandit.

Oh, well, boys will be boyz will be ma-boyz.

Talkin’ of the oh-ohs, I met thespian Dru Muthure who kumbushad me of da Balozi Sundays he’d pata the Smitts in red shorts, red-eyed at dawn, bebaing eggz n mkate n gazetis n a quarter, with a deadly killer hangover size ya ebola.

He waz with Joni (of Mother-in-Law) with whom we usedta hang out in da late 90s at KNT, then roll in a ma-three called Prisoner at kedo eleven pam, yeah, to Ngong’ town ( me ole man had a crib there).

Can’t say I miss da Kane spirits of those days, but boy, si we’ve stories!

Joni, me, my late kid bro Benji rolling in Ngongski. Twas like in the Tupac song Life Goes On, back then. ‘As I bail thru the empty halls, breath stinkin’ in ma jaws, ring ring ring, quiet y’all, incoming call..

Life as a baller, alcohol n booty calls, dyu recall?’

Yez! Minus the ‘incoming calls’ (coz we had no cell phones) n the booty calls! But the next bit’s true. “All I got left are the stinkin memories/ I luved ‘em niggaz to death, now I’m drinkin’ Hennessy/ trying to make it last. Gimme a pen n a paper so I can wryte about my life of sin, n a coupla bottles of Gin, in-case I don’t get in! But life goes on.”

And it did that Sato after le Sharonova called n I rolled on alone to Wilson’s Aero-Club to join Bosky’s Charter Airline in theya fiftieth anniversary celebrations. (Yes, they were founded by a Russian).

Twas luvly to see both Esthers of Boskovic, n I sat with young pilot Sam Mbugua (n his sis) n enjoyed a heart-to-heart till late with Sha’s colleague Julianna’s mano (great congrats on theya forthcoming tot).

I waz glad to see engineer Gladstone (with whom we did a jig) n particularly delighted to finally give my kitabu to Bosky Ops manager, John, a chap who has always lit-encouraged me, n is forever in my heart.

The boss of Boskovic, Tedd Watt, I met, looking dapper as ever. N got to take a snap with Charles Njonjo, who called me his ‘olde Starch lad’ (he is a Starehe patron, our Sir).

N tis fitting to close this chap-book this-a-way coz Air Sha from next year takes off to higher horizons, so the years of paps’ mentions are over. It reminds me of our Caroline Mutoko, out of pop radio, and on stuff more mayuu. Of course with Carol M, even as we still condole with her for the loss of Re-gina, I still hold a special place for her in my heart for her belief in le Smitta, all these years.
