Why all is not well in ODM traditional strongholds as primaries heat up political space in Nyanza.

The last minute move by the ODM National Elections Board to reschedule nominations in Kisumu and Siaya counties both of which have high stakes in the party tickets has bred jitters among the electorate who were set to participate in the nominations.

On Sunday night the party postponed the primaries for Kisumu County that were set to be conducted today citing insecurity around the county and probable inadequate preparations for the exercise as key Raila allies battle it out for the party tickets.

In Siaya County voters had turned out in large numbers to grant their favourite candidates the chance to run on the ODM ticket. In the escalated political temperatures in the region as it is believed, a win in the primaries is a guaranteed win in the General Elections.

The nominations in the counties have been moved to Tuesday 24, April for what the party termed as unavoidable circumstances forcing them resolve to the last minute move. Sections of voters in the counties have expressed dejection and suspicion largely in Siaya where some have pointed out a likelihood of mischief and malpractice in the line of pushing the dates.

In Migori County voting had been delayed due to late distribution of ballot boxes and election materials to as late as 8am. Governor Okoth Obado is facing stiff competition from former MP Ochilo Ayako in a battle that has witnessed chaotic incidences emanating from what appeared to be the party's leadership showing support and endorsement to Ayako to take on Obado who recently returned to the party after his election as Governor.
