Why new Bill leaves Kisii governor James Ongwae a worried man.

Kisii County Governor James Ongwae might have his quest pegged on a Bill proposing a retirement package for former civil servants as all eyes are set on his decision to pen it into law.

If the Governor signs it into law, a former mayor will receive Sh3 million, their deputies Sh2 million and all councilors will pocket Sh1.5 million from taxpayers money.

Recently members of the county assembly passed a similar bill that would award a retired governor Sh10 million.

The bill sponsored by MCAs is seeking to benefit all retired leaders who had been in office since 1963 and would gulp a huge sum of public revenue.

The retired civil servicemen's chairman Casper Gichana says they had an equal right of entitlement to a retirement package just like former Members of Parliament and Presidents in Kenya.

" We want the governor to sign the bill into law since we all served the public just as former members of Parliament and presidents in the country, " he said.

Those eyeing to unseat Mr. Ongwae are likely to ride on the bill in their campaigns, a move that would mount pressure on the Governor given the role played by the former civil servants in the area during elections.

If awarded the package, it might not go well with the public and would still leave a gap for the county top seat antagonists to condemn the incumbent.
