ODM launches anniversary celebrations

ODM will launch a series of programmes in Mombasa Thursday to mark the party's tenth anniversary.

A statement released by ODM's Director of Elections and Campaigns Junet Mohamed Wednesday evening indicated that the party's deputy leader Hassan Joho (Mombasa governor) will launch 47 branded buses and thousands of party flags for distribution and shows across Kenya.

According to the programme, the road shows will be unveiled Thursday leading to a grand convention in Mombasa on Saturday.

The Suna East MP also said a big announcement will also be made on Saturday.

It not clear what the announcement will be but sources within the party hinted that CORD leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula will receive what has been described as "high profile defectors" from the ruling coalition.

The statement further said that there will be afternoon processions in Mombasa on Saturday and fireworks displays at night to conclude a commemoration where 450 MCAs, 110 MPs, 18 senators and 10 governors have confirmed attendance.

The Standard has established that several Jubilee-leaning parastatal heads from Coast who lost elections on Jubilee ticket in 2013 have met CORD leaders in Nairobi and Mombasa to explore prospects of defection to ODM.
