Man pleads guilty to sodomising his five-year-old nephew

A man has pleaded guilty to sodomising his five-year-old nephew.

Following the plea, Senior Resident Magistrate Thomas Obutu ordered that Teddy Okoth Juma be taken for psychiatric test to evaluate his mental well being. The 26-year-old who is currently being remanded at Kodiaga Maximum Prison first appeared in court on July 19 and pleaded guilty of the sexual offence which attracts a life imprisonment penalty.

He admitted that he lured his cousin’s son with chips and sodomised him on April 8, 2016 in Dago Kolweny. Mr Juma was arrested and arraigned in court after an out-of-court settlement deal between his family and the father to the minor, was exposed in a quarrel between the minor’s mother and his stepmother.

SEALED DEAL

In the deal, sealed in a handwritten agreement between the two parties, a paltry Sh8,000 was paid to some of the  boy’s relatives.

The sum, according to the minor’s grandmother, who made the heinous ordeal public, was to secure the disappearance of hospital reports of the defilement so that a criminal charge could not be pursued.

She said the boy’s mother, who had separated with her husband, returned home and confronted her co-wife about the incident.

“The family has agreed to solve the matter at home since it is in the same family and when the case is not solved (it) can be brought for further action, that’s all I can state,” the letter partly read.

The case will be mentioned on September 2 when Juma will take plea again.
