The teachers' employer is recruiting more than 7,000 trained teachers for primary and secondary schools.

Communication from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) shows that of these, 5,000 will be additional teachers under the Sh2.3 billion budget allocated this financial year.

TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia said the remaining 2,157 will be hired to replace those who have exited the profession through retirement or death.

In total, 7,157 teachers will be recruited and are expected to report to their workstations by September 20, 2016.

Those seeking to be recruited for post-primary positions have up to Friday next week to submit their academic qualifications to institutions boards of management.

All interviews for the candidates and selection process of successful applicants will be conducted between August 29 and September 10. "County directors should return recruitment documents to the TSC headquarters by September 12, 2016 for vetting and processing," said Ms Macharia.

Among the listed requirements for primary institutions are that candidates must be holders of P1 certificates and should be 45 years and below.

Candidates must also have original professional and academic certificates and must also be registered with TSC.

Those seeking slots in primary schools have been advised to apply to the TSC county director in the county where a vacancy has been advertised.

In addition to these conditions, candidates seeking slots in post-primary institutions must have a minimum of diploma in education certificate.

Post-Secondary institutions include technical training institutes, polytechnics and teacher training colleges. Only 539 slots have been reserved for secondary schools and post-secondary institutions.
