Haballa wins Chicken as Thika's Kiarie bags Crown title on countback

Home golfer Allan Haballa carded an excellent 65 nett to emerge the overall winner of the 2016 Chicken Challenge golf tournament played at the par 72 Leisure Lodge Resort Champion course at Diani, South Coast of Mombasa, in Kwale County.

The handicap 12 golfer’s luck came after sinking a notable four rare birdies in both nines to clinch the Chicken trophy in the 18-hole day-long tournament.

Haballa added five level pars and rounded up the rest of the holes with a mixed bag of bogey shots.

“The greens and fairways are playing well and I thank God for the victory,” said Haballa.

Club mate Manfred Deunert playing off handicap 22 was the runners up on 68 nett and taking the third slot on 70 nett was the former national golfer handicap 01 Amos Kamau, who is also from the Club.

The tournament organised and sponsored by the Leisure Lodge Resort Management was attended by 100 golfers from the home club, Mombasa, Nyali, Malindi, Vipingo and guests of the club with valid handicaps.

At the Thika Sports Club course, the 2016 Crown Stable ford challenge event was won by home golfer handicap 20 Edwin Kiarie on a count back score of 39 points (20-19).

Kiarie had tied on the same score with club mate handicap 21 Peter Mburugu, who was the men winner while handicap 05 Watson Mburugu also from the same club was the runners up on a point behind.

Thika’s Margaret Waweru playing off handicap 25 was the lady winner on 35 points (21-14), while handicap 11 Betty Ndenderu on 34 points (17-17) was the runners up and taking the Guest prize on 42 points ( 20-22), which was the best score of the day, was K.Kimenju from Ruiru club.

At the par 71 Muthaiga course, home club’s Jason Kariuki playing off handicap 17 carded 40 points (17-23) to win the KU Foundation prize while club mate Patrick Mokaya playing off handicap 21 was the men winner on 38 points (20-18).

Handicap 17 Samira Furrar was the lady winner on 29 points (16-13) and the Guest and Junior winners were Thika’s Anthony Kabucho on 33 points and Giri Bhardwaj on 37 points respectively.
