Maths contest winner gets Sh1.6m scholarship at Strathmore University

Lynn Akoth from Alliance Girls High School is the winner of this years' Brookside Mathlete contest in the girls category, scoring 93 per cent.

The contest that took place at Strathmore University was organised and sponsored by Brookside Ltd.

"I am so much delighted to be the winner of this year's contest, and I will pursue a Maths-related course at Strathmore University," said Ms Akoth.

She was awarded a scholarship of Sh1.6 million at the university to pursue a course of her choice.

This year's event took place in 13 venues across the country with 24,000 participants, where 3,000 were selected to contest at the national level.

Brookside Marketing Director Oliver Mary said the maths challenge was launched to help high school students improve in their performance.

"This annual event has helped to debunk the perception that mathematics is hard among students and as you can see the number of participants keeps rising," added Oliver.

Strathmore University has partnered with Brookside Dairy to promote academic excellence in mathematics through the challenge.
