KAGUTA’S BAG OF BIRDIES WINS: Nyali golfer braves strong winds to emerge gross winner

Nyali’s William Kaguta emerged the best gross winner on a six over par 77 gross at the June 2016 prestigious Mug golf tournament played at the seaside par 71 Mombasa Golf Course.

Playing off handicap 3, Kaguta’s day started shining in the front nine after kicking off the daylong 18 holes event by sinking a rare back to back birdies in the par four-first and the par four second holes.

The golfer went on to gain maximum points by adding another birdie on the par four-tenth hole and rolling eight level pars despite playing a mixed pot of bogey shots on the rest of both nines to beat a team of an estimated 125 golfers in the event sponsored by the Club.

“It was not easy especially with the strong winds from the nearby ocean but today has been my best play here at the seaside,” said Kaguta during the prize giving ceremony attended by among others visiting golfers from Nyali, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and guests of the Club.

Home Club’s handicap 11 Mburu Kariuki claimed the A division on a count back score of 71 nett after tying on the same points with club Chairman handicap 13 Peter Kimanga who claimed the B division.

Division C was won by handicap 22 Jacob Murimi also from Mombasa on 72 nett and the Best guest prize was claimed by Nyali’s handicap 17 Josse Tharao on 77 nett.

At Vet Lab, the 2016 S.G Mbaabu event was won by home golfer handicap 22 Rupin Paten on 39 points (16-23) while club mate handicap 29 Joan Kiengo was the lady winner on 36 points (20-16).

The guest and senior prizes were claimed by Nyanza’s handicap 24 Jackton Konyango on 37 points (16-21) and Handicap 13 H.D’Souza on 33 points (15-18) respectively.

At the Thika Sports Sports Club course, Home Club’s Rod Barton posted 41 points (21-20) to emerge the overall winner of the 2016 Thika Next Generation event played on Saturday.

Club mate David Wainaina on 40 points (21-19) was the Men winner while Rose Kangethe also from the club posted 39 points (19-20) to claim the Lady’s prize.

Eric Mugo on 37 points (19-18) and C.Kimari on 41points (18-23) were the Sponsor and Guest winners respectively.
