Presidents Uhuru and Ian Khama hold trade talks

President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Ian Khama of the Republic of Botswana are entertained by traditional dancers at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Botswana to review immigration rules especially on work permits for Kenyans who want to work there.

The president also called for increased business engagements between Kenya and Botswana during bilateral talks with his host President Ian Khama.

He urged his counterpart to review the rules to enable Kenyan professionals and business people to engage in more business with Botswana.

President Kenyatta also discussed and pushed for the review of the bilateral air services agreement between Kenya and Botswana, which allows Kenya Airways to fly to Gaborone three times a week.

He requested a review of the air services agreement to allow KQ to fly to more destinations within Botswana to open up the immense unexploited trade potential between the two countries.

"We are requesting for a review of the BASA in order to actualise the inclusion of the already granted entry points of Maun, Franscistown and Kasane," said President Kenyatta.

He requested President Khama's support to inspire the Botswana business community to exploit the existing investment opportunities in Kenya.

"There is immense unexploited trade potential between our countries. I look forward to your Government's support in facilitating trade and investment between our countries," said President Kenyatta.

The two Presidents will today address a Botswana-Kenya Business Forum.

Before holding their bilateral talks, President Khama hosted a State luncheon in honour of President Kenyatta.

Speaking at the luncheon, the Botswana leader expressed gratitude for the support Kenya has offered his country from independence in developing its manpower.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of agreements between Kenya and Botswana in the areas of water and tourism.
