The government is determined to see talks on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) yield fruitful results. Deputy President William Ruto, speaking at Chebosi Secondary School in Bungoma County during the burial of Mama Saphres Wanyama, the mother to Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama yesterday, thanked the Opposition leaders for accepting to dialogue over the IEBC stalemate.

“I’m happy that CORD has accepted to follow the Constitution in its plan to remove the IEBC commissioners, this is the way to go, let us do it in a structured way and in a constitutional manner,” the DP said.

He blamed the Opposition leaders for delaying the names of their team to participate in the dialogue which is derailing development and causing tension.

“We are against persistent demonstrations by CORD leaders against IEBC commissioners, it scares investors, derails development, Kenyans have died while others maimed in the process,” said Ruto.

Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said the Luhya community was happy with the appointment of one of their own to Government.

“We thank the government for the appointing our own, we have three ambassadors whose term is expiring and I’m requesting the government to renew their term or appoint others when their term expires,” said Wamalwa. Also present, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, called on the Jubilee to ease tension that is building over the electoral commission.

“Let’s hasten the process so that the polls commissioners are sent packing to allow the new people to handle elections next year,” said Wetang’ula. Governor Ken Lusaka called on the western region to support the government of the day if they want more development.
