An assistant chief sacked after a video showing him drunk went viral on social media has asked the Government to re-instate him.

Mawingu Administrator Joseph Rotich said he had reformed after undergoing rehabilitation at Mathari Hospital.

Mr Rotich yesterday said it was unfortunate that he was captured in the video. He added that the incident changed his life for better.

The former administrator said after undergoing rehabilitation for 52 days, he is now alcohol-free and wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to re-instate him to his former position.

"I am ready to go back and work because I have a family to take care of. I am reformed and believe I will do my best to help in fighting illicit liquor," he said.

Rotich said he had been drinking alcohol for the past 20 years. He could wake up and drink some some before reporting to work.

"I was an addict. I would start my day by quenching the thirst; not even the presence of the President would deter me as happened on March 16," said Rotich.

He now wants laws on alcohol and drug abuse strengthened to help deter the vice, which he said had affected development in most parts of the country.

"I am among the many people struggling with drug abuse. I wish the Government would come up with policies to rescue our youths who are 'married' to alcohol and drugs," he said.
