Police in Githunguri are looking for a man suspected to have defiled his eight-year-old daughter.

The man allegedly committed the heinous crime after he threw his wife out of their home.

According to the wife, the man came home drunk at midnight in a quarrelsome mood. She served him food but he refused to take it and started hurling insults at her.

Tired of the insults, she decided to retire to bed, but the husband demanded she leaves the house and threatened to slash her with a panga.

The woman fled to her mother–in–law's house a few metres away and spent the night there.

The mother of three said she woke up the following morning at 5am to check on her family. At 7am she decided to wash her children's school uniforms and found her white blouse stained with blood. She assumed her husband had brought another woman to their matrimonial bed which she said was common.

Nevertheless, she inquired from her husband what the source of the blood was. "He told me I should know better because as a man he does not receive monthly periods. I then perused the bed where I found the other bedding was soaked in blood," said the woman.

Alarmed, she rushed to the children's bedroom and, shockingly, found her daughter dressed in her brother's pair of shorts with blood dripping down her legs.

The distraught woman said her daughter explained that her father woke her up in the night and took her to their matrimonial bed where he defiled her.

When her daughter allegedly asked her father what he was doing, he reportedly slapped her, squeezed her throat and threatened to kill her and her mother if she ever told her or anyone else.

The girl was rushed to Githunguri health centre and was referred to the Nairobi Women's Hospital where she has been undergoing treatment for the last one week.

The incident was reported at Githunguri Police Station (Occurrence Book number 17/7/5/2016).

According to a doctor's report from the Nairobi Women's Hospital the girl sustained serious injuries in her private parts.

Residents of Kiababu, Ikinu pounced on the suspect and beat him ruthlessly before he was rescued by police. "We escorted to him Ikinu AP camp on May 8, but the suspect was released under mysterious circumstances," said Simon Ng'ang'a.

Githunguri OCPD Ranson Lolmodoni said they have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
