IEBC facing serious credibility crisis

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is under siege following an onslaught by the Opposition.

CORD leader Raila Odinga has been a thorn in the flesh of the IEBC team led by Isaac Hassan.

Raila has sensationally claimed that the 2017 elections is as good as rigged in favour of the Government. If the allegation is proven, evidently the commissioners’ goose is as good as cooked.

It is crystal clear that IEBC team has never known peace ever since Raila was teargassed outside its offices. Aside from the incessant attacks from the CORD brigade, the church and civil society have been on the neck of the IEBC.

The elephant in the room is that will they conduct elections in a year’s time despite claims that they have been in bed with the Government?

Pundits have castigated the “commission for its lack of independence’ with some citing the handling of Okoa Kenya signature verification.

Admittedly and sadly though, the commission has never been serious in shedding the tag of being in bed with the Government. The chicken gate scandal in which some top IEBC officials are alleged to have taken bribes heaps more misery on the besieged commission.
