Moses Kuria bond enhanced to Sh10m for repeatedly engaging in hate speech

Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria

Nairobi, Kenya: Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria has suffered yet another blow after court enhanced his bond terms to Sh10 million from Sh5 million and warned him not to repeat similar offence.

His cash bail was also increased from Sh1 million to Sh3 million. Justice Luka Kimaru warned other politicians not to engage in similar offences of hate speech.

Mr Kuria who had appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo last year charged with incitement, was locked up and spent time in the cells after Kuria had pleaded not guilty to two counts of incitement to violence and disobedience of the law following a successful petition by the prosecutor objecting his release.

The court noted that previously the Gatundu south MP had disobeyed a court order in another incitement case, which had prohibited him from making statements that would amount to what he was being charged with. "An accused person while on bail cannot repeat the same matter that is subject in court. That is according to the law on bail policy guidelines,".
