Seven parties submit resolutions to dissolve and join Jubilee Party

JPK steering committee co-chair Noah Wekesa

KAKAMEGA: Seven parties have submitted their resolutions to be dissolved to form Jubilee Party of Kenya (JPK) which is expected to be unveiled in March this year.

According to Noah Wekesa, JPK steering committee co-chair, the parties have agreed to be dissolved to merge and form the new party.

"Seven parties have agreed to be dissolved to form the new party. We are still waiting for other parties including New Ford Kenya and Ford People to submit their resolutions," said Wekesa.

He said JPK will be an inclusive party with national outlook to reduce tribalism and ethnicity in the country.

He said soon party leaders will traverse across the country to popularise the party on whose ticket President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will be seeking their second term in office.

"We will soon launch nationwide activities to popularize the party. The party will have a national outlook with leaders from all regions," he said.

The former cabinet minister cautioned those nursing hopes of being given direct party nominations in the next elections saying they will be in for a rude shock.

He said after unveiling the party they will form county executive committee and election board in every county to oversee the nomination exercise in readiness for 2017 polls.

He said JPK will remain united for the next 50 years and more contrary to what critics have been saying the party is meant for 2017 elections only.

"We will have offices in all 47 counties. Those who think will run to Nairobi to get nomination certificates should forget about such hopes. We will conduct our affairs transparently. Nobody will be forced to join the party," he said.

Mr Wekesa asked leaders and members of the party to shun insulting others in the Opposition camp saying they should focus on development of the nation.

"We are not at war with CORD. We should focus on our party and they should focus on their coalition. Let us not engage each other with insults," he said.

United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali said UDF National Executive Council will meet soon to discuss their resolutions to join JPK.

"UDF will be part of JPK. We have not yet submitted our resolutions to dissolve but UDF NEC will be meeting soon to work on the resolutions to fold the party," said Washiali.

Jubilee coalition is made up of 12 political parties which include; The National Alliance (TNA), United Republican Party (URP), UDF, Alliance Party of Kenya (APK-Mbasi), New Ford Kenya, Ford People, CCU, GNU, DP, Republican Party among others.
