Jubilee plans to rig 2017 election, claims Mudavadi

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has accused Jubilee of planning to rig the 2017 General Election.

Mr Mudavadi said the Jubilee government has purposefully denied adequate funds to the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to carry out extensive voter registration in order to disadvantage some regions.

The ANC leader said his strongholds were still lagging behind in voter registration at only 30 per cent yet those of Jubilee have surpassed 90 per cent.

"Offering IEBC an advance of only Sh500 million for the voter registration is a total joke. This means each of the over 1,000 wards is entitled to just Sh450,000. Can that even fuel the vehicles required for the exercise?" Musalia posed during at a church service in Nairobi Sunday.

He criticised Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale for trying to absolve the Government from blame.

"Is it not the Government's parliamentary committees that approve and allocate the funds? Why then should they blame IEBC when they are the sole cause?" he posed.

He said Jubilee leaders were transversing the country bragging about funds channelled to projects which common citizens cannot see.

The Treasury proposed budget cuts on IEBC that will see the commission access only Sh31 billion of its Sh45 billion budget.

He dismissed other presidential hopefuls from Western, asking the Luhya community to rally behind him to ensure they are not used as political puppets.

"Of all those who declared presidential candidature in 2013 from Western, I am the only one who was bold enough to finish the race. So no leader should claim that I am a coward," he said.

He further asked leaders to stop politicising the Supreme Court saga that implicated Justice Philip Tunoi on graft charges since a tribunal will be set up.

"The problem with our leaders is that they know how to talk when not given a chance. Once the tribunal is constituted, let those who are talking go and say whatever they have to say there," he said.

Speaking separately, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula challenged IEBC to provide enough voter registration kits.

"IEBC must bring enough registration kits or else we shall know that they are in a pre-rigging scheme," he said.

The CORD co-principal was speaking during rally in Kitale that also attended by area Governor Patrick Khaemba and Senator Henry ole Ndiema.
