We have spent devolved cash well, says Wambora

Embu Governor Martin Wambora and Manyatta MP John Muchiri when they launched the Karuriri-Kavondori bridge built by Community Development Trust Fund at a cost of Sh6.1 million on November 6, 2015.

Governor Martin Wambora has defended his administration against claims of misuse of public funds.

He was reacting to claims by MPs that he cannot account for the Sh12 billion received from the National Treasury since 2013.

Mr Wambora said Embu received about Sh9 billion during the period, and 70 per cent of the amount was channelled towards recurrent expenditure.

"Only Sh2.7 billion was available for development. We have done many things using it and we can account for it to the last cent," he said.

Wambora said due to political wrangles and as his opponents tried to impeach him, the county was unable to absorb more than Sh1 billion in the first Financial Year.

He said the money was carried forward to subsequent years, causing a misconception that the county had received more money.

Wambora said Embu's recurrent expenditure is high because as a former provincial headquarters, it inherited many workers from the national government in addition to those from the defunct local authorities and the ones that this government has employed.

"Sh2.7 billion is not enough for the level of development we had in mind but I am satisfied that we have achieved a lot and the citizens appreciate it. Except for some leaders who are engaged in political activism to discredit my administration we have achieved a lot in health, infrastructure and provision of water services," said Wambora.

Wambora said there were adequate drugs in all public health facilities and dared anyone doubting it to confirm with any of the facilities.
