Parents, teachers and students of Kangundo High School over the weekend held prayers in a move that the school's management believes will give a new start to the former education giant in the region.

The school, reputed in the 80s as one of the most outstanding academic giants in lower Eastern region went to ruins in the mid 90s because of frequent student unrest.

Since then, the school has had unpredictable patterns of performance, dogged by perennial strikes.

Last year, property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed after students who set a dormitory ablaze.
