Road to Narok at centre of Jubilee and CORD tussle

The proposed construction of a road leading to Narok will determine the local political landscape as the 2017 polls edge closer.

Both Jubilee and CORD leaders believe failure to tarmac the Isala-Mashuru-Isinya-Kiserian-Ngong-Suswa road would make selling the Jubilee government difficult.

This comes as former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku announced that he had joined politics.

Kajiado Senator Peter Mositet and MPs Moses ole Sakuda (Kajiado West), Peris Tobiko (Kajiado East), Joseph Manje (Kajiado North) and Katoo ole Metito (Kajiado South) said the road would determine the community's decision in the coming polls.

"This road passes through the heart of Kajiado's business community. We need the support of the Government to keep our supporters intact," Mr Sakuda said.

The legislator said the community's best bet remains Jubilee, adding that locals are expecting goodies from the Government. Mr Mositet claimed that the national government had not started any project in the county.

"Our rivals are challenging us to show how the community has benefited from Jubilee and the people are grumbling because even in state appointments, we are left out," Mositet added.

The leaders spoke at a community meeting where Mr Sakuda was graduating with two masters degrees in divinity and Arts in Education from the Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia, US.

The MPs told Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, who represented Deputy President William Ruto, that the Jubilee government should fast track the compensation of the community by the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco).

A project that mostly runs through land owned by the Keekonyokie clan was stopped over claims of low compensation. Mr Lenku jolted the county's politics when he declared his interest in the gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said that the county was suffering from poor leadership.

"I will seek the top seat to salvage the county's economic development," he added.
