Act as agents of change in Kenya, artistes told

Senator Hassan Omar has called on artistes in the county to act as agents of social change.

Omar urged the artistes to be mobilisers among themselves and always critique leaders when they are wrong as well as offer solutions through their songs and plays.

“One fundamental principle is participation of people and as artistes, you should involve the right people and consult with fellow artistes to ensure your success and bring the change you want,” said Omar.

The senator said artistes need to have the right strategy and involve the right people to help them succeed in their career. “Let your hearts be revolutionary, authentic and original,” said Omar.

He said artistes from the county should work extra hard to change the notion that people from Mombasa are lazy and only wait for the “the coconut to fall down, rather than pick from the tree”. “I try to work extra hard because of the perception that Mombasa people are weak and lazy,” said Omar.

Omar was addressing artistes from Mombasa on Christmas Eve at Little Theatre Club in Mombasa.
