Police officer kills wife, shoots self dead in presence of children

A police officer shot his wife dead and turned the gun on himself in presence of their two children at Itabua police lines in Embu County.

Constable Paul Rotich was attached to Itabua Police Station at the Eastern regional police headquarters while his wife identified as Agnes Wakaria in the dog section.

Embu West OCPD Francis Sang’ said Rotich was on night duty on Friday and left for supper in his house at around 9.30pm before they heard gunshots at about 10pm. “The first bullet missed the wife while two hit her on the head. The officer then shot himself in the head,” said Sang’.

Journalists who visited the scene found the deceased officers’ two children aged three and six traumatised.

Sang’ said Rotich had served at the station for less than two months after he was transferred from Sultan Hamud Police Station. Officers described the deceased as hardworking. The bodies were removed to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary.
