Screens mounted in public places for Nairobi Papal Mass

Kenyans Wednesday gathered in different parks around Nairobi to watch the proceedings of Pope Francis's arrival, which were being beamed on screens mounted in public places around the city.

The screens, which have been placed in major parks such as Uhuru Park and Central Park, will air the Pope's events, especially when he gives public addresses like the one he is expected to make during the holy mass at the University of Nairobi.

Having people sitting calmly in the town centre gave the illusion of calm in a city that is always on the move with people rushing to their destinations.

Timothy Walimu, one of the people organising the live coverage of events at the parks, said the initiative was meant to allow as many people as possible experience the Pope's visit, even those who did not have exclusive invites to places Pope Francis will visit.

At the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, several youths assembled to rehearse for the performances they will give when the Pope meets them on Friday.

Ghetto Classic Orchestra said that they had perfected the art of playing the traditional instruments they will use to entertain more than 200,000 guests.

MoSound, which is in charge of sound at the stadium, said they were using full-range technology that would allow sound to reverberate across the stadium.
