Meru County first lady Phoebe Munya said those fighting the governor, don't have the best interests of Meru at heart.
Incidentally, Mrs Munya comes from Kionyo, Senator's Kiraitu's home.
"They (Munya's detractors) were at Nkinyang'a, and the other day they were at Heritage. The people are satisfied with the governor's work, and he is doing more. The governor fully supports President Uhuru Kenyatta, and will do it again. Amesimama imara (he is standing firm)," she said.
The move has attracted both support and resistance from wananchi and leaders, especially MCAs who are staunch supporters of the governor.
Kangeta Ward MCA Romano Mwito said the Tigania and Igembe sub-tribes would feel marginalized by the Imenti if Kiraitu became governor.
"If Kiraitu runs, it will divide Imenti and Nyambene People down the middle. It is an unwritten pact that the Imenti should have the senate and Nyambene the governor's position," said Mwito.
Kiraitu hails from Imenti, while Munya's home is in Nyambene
