National Land Commission to revoke titles for Ol Kalou land

NYAHURURU: The National Land Commission (NLC) will revoke title deeds of a 96-acre parcel of land in Ol'Kalou town originally set aside for the construction of Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology.

NLC Chairman Muhammad Swazuri said the commission will revoke some titles of riparian land encroached on by individuals at Lake Ol Bollosat.

He said NLC will not be intimidated by people rushing to courts to block their revocation as it was in the best interests of the people.

"Whether people rush to court to stop us from repossessing public utility land is immaterial because we shall be guided by the law. Nobody will be allowed to continue occupying land meant for public use," Dr Swazuri said.

The chairman was speaking when he visited Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka before touring the region to assess the situation.

Swazuri, who was accompanied by several commissioners and senior staff, said it was ironic that the 96-acre piece of land - LR Ol'Kalou/Salient Block 11- was demarcated and allocated to private developers on the "strength of a fake ground report" issued by former Nyandarua district land adjudication and settlement officer.

He said, "Land reserved for public use cannot be turned into private land."
