Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission arrests police boss

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a chief inspector of police and a senior technician attached at Kenya Power (KP) over graft allegations.

Chief Inspector Peter Wambua attached to KP security department in Nakuru and James Michuki were arrested at Kambi ya Moto on Tuesday evening. South Rift EACC Deputy Director Gilbert Lukhoba said EACC officers were acting on a tip-off when they accosted the two suspects soliciting money from the public.

Lukhoba said the two were threatening to arrest some residents within the estate after accusing them of illegally connecting power. "They were demanding Sh150, 000 from the residents in order to drop charges against them and rectify the connection." said Lukhoba.

"EACC officers laid a trap following numerous complaints from locals and found the suspects extorting money," he added.

The suspects were taken to Central Police Station, where they were released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each as the officers seek consent from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions.

"The two will be arraigned in court at any time after we receive consent from the DPP. They will be charged with engaging in extortion upon conclusion of investigations," he said.
