Body of 7 year old boy who went missing found

Conley Thompson was last seen at Locke Park in Barnsley where he had gone to play with his friends at around 6p.m. His parents then reported him missing. 

More than 50 officers from South Yorkshire Police were searching for the seven-year-old boy last night.

A body has been found at a building site close to his home. Formal identification has not taken place but police say they believe it is the schoolboy.

"His family have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers."

Detective Inspector Victoria Short leading the investigation said, “We deployed our full resources with officers searching throughout the night to find Conley and we are deeply saddened by this tragic development.

“While it is early in the investigation, the death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem will take place in due course.

“Our thoughts remain with Conley’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

There had been numerous reports that officers have been seen at a building site nearby.

Police were also seen outside the schoolboy's home.

Earlier, the head teacher of a primary school close to Conley's home appealed for information about the missing boy.

Nichola Thorpe, the head of Worsbrough Bank End Primary School, wrote: "Dear families, can you help?

"Conley is missing since last night (Sunday) and the police are looking for him.
