An estimated 6,000 youth thronged Machakos town over the weekend to attend the entertainment-propelled Masaku 7s rugby tournament, one of the most publicised annual events in the country.
Hotels and lodges were fully booked and hundreds were forced to sleep in their cars as fun activities went on for three consecutive days, non-stop, with bars and hotels registering huge profits.
Security was tight with check points mounted about 15 kilometres before Machakos town and every vehicle issued with special security passes.
The town was a beehive of activity with small traders also enjoying booming business. The youth, mostly from Nairobi, came dressed very well, showcasing state-of-the-art rides with booming music speakers.
