Hooded gangsters rob trader of Sh200,000 at gun point

Kirinyaga, Kenya: A trader from Kirinyaga escaped death narrowly after he was obstructed by gun totting gangsters at Thiba village along the Mwea-Nairobi Road and robbed of Sh200,000.

The trader was driving to a bank in Ngurubani market to deposit the cash when the two hooded thugs armed with an AK 47 assault rifle accosted him.

The gangsters then shot in the air to scare passersby during the Thursday morning incident  before hounding out the trader from the vehicle.

County Deputy Police Commander Charles Ontita said after robbing the trader of the cash, the gangsters then fled using a standby motorcycle, which had no registration number.

“Police officers who visited the scene moments later found a spent bullet cartridge. No one was injured,'' he said.

Ontinta urged area residents, who might have witnessed the incident, to assist the police with investigations.
The shocked trader later recorded a statement at Wanguru police station.
