County to wait for one year to have university college

Residents of the county will have to wait for a year before the university college set to be established admits its first lot of learners.

The institution which is expected to begin as a constituent college of the University of Eldoret (UoE) will be set up at Kiabonyoru High.

County Executive for Education Peter Omwanza said, "We are in agreement that the university takes over the infrastructure of Kiabonyoru Boys, which will relocated and relaunched as a model secondary school."

The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics and Students Affairs at UoE Ruth Otunga said it will be difficult for the institution to begin this September, reiterating that the timeline would only have worked if the college was set up as a campus and not a university college.

The university college will start by offering education, business and management sciences courses.

The visiting team from UoE promised to pass on their recommendations to the Senate before the way forward is sought.
