Shock as woman knifes corpse of boyfriend’s ex before burial

USA:   A woman has been arrested after allegedly reaching into a coffin and slashing up the the body of boyfriend's ex in a funeral home.

Shaynna Sims, who also goes by the surname Smith, is being held on charges of vandalising a corpse.

The 26-year-old, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was initially arrested on suspicion of illegally dissecting a human body.

Police were alerted by a manager at Moore Funeral Home Eastlawn Chapel who said a family had complained a body waiting to be interred had been vandalised.

They claim Sims reached into the coffin of a deceased woman and used a knife to slash her face, then smeared her make-up.

The family they found Sims with her hands inside the coffin, but she quickly stepped away when they approached.

Funeral director John Wilson told local paper Tulsa World he had never experienced such a situation in 30 years in the business.

"It’s really unfortunate that it happened," Wilson said.

Police are believed to have found a folding knife with the deceased woman’s hair on it, as well as scissors, a box cutter and various makeup items.

Officers did not offer a motive for the attack but local reports suggest the deceased woman had previously dated Sims' boyfriend and the pair were described as 'frenemies'.
