Politicians can be trusted with country’s resources, says DP William Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto Tuesday called for unity and cohesion among Kenyans saying divisions based on political, religious or tribal affiliations will not create the necessary synergy for the prosperity of the country.

Speaking when he hosted a Parliamentary prayer group to a breakfast meeting at his official residence in Karen , Mr. Ruto  stated that as stakeholders they should realize that  they all belong to this country  and divisions  based on political party, communities and religions were self-defeating.

He said:“ Am persuaded that we should have less of ethnic divisions, less of political divide and look kindly at those who belong to other communities and know that those who don’t belong to our party, community or religion, they too are the children of God.”

Emphasising that Kenya is one, the DP asked Kenyans to appreciate those who do not belong to their tribes or political parties and be kind to them adding there was need to build bridges across ethnic and political divides for peace and prosperity of the nation.

Parastatal appointments

At the same time, the DP called on Kenyans to tone down on self-criticism, saying that they were being unnecessarily hard on themselves as a people.

He singled out Monday’s appointments of some politicians to parastatal jobs as a case in point noting Kenyans should realize that politicians too can be trusted with managing the country’s resources.

“We are being accused this morning of giving jobs to politicians, if we let the narrative that politicians cannot be trusted with parastatal jobs to take root in our country, who will?”  he posed.

And added: “I believe strongly that we should be kinder as the people of Kenya. We are sometimes too hard on ourselves, we need to tone down. We all belong to this country and we all have a stake in it.”

He commended the MPs for initiating and forming prayer groups noting that it was one way of building bridges across ethnic, political and religious persuasions. He said: “ when I see MPs sharing in prayer it is a deep and very important indication , because divisions that these belong to different party ,these are from different community  will not create synergy for the prosperity of this country. “

“The more we share, the more we meet together, the more we engage, the more robust we shall be as a people and the more we shall achieve what we desire,” he added.

Mr. Ruto thanked the MPs and Kenyans in general for praying for him to win his case in The Hague, acknowledging that it is burden for Kenyans for which he does not take for granted but hastened to add that the prayers are already answered.

Once again he assured Kenyans of their security noting that the government had deployed all resources at its disposal to manage the security situation in the country.” We have deployed what is humanly possible for the security of our country and we trust in God to guarantee it and prosperity of our country.

The Parliamentary prayer group was led by the MP for Mathioya Captain Wambugu while the Bible exposition was done by the MP for Turkana central Lodepe Nakara.
