South African comedian, Trevor Noah, has been appointed as the next Comedy Central’s The Daily Show host following Jon Stewart’s retirement.
Speaking on phone to The New York Times from Dubai, where he is on tour, the 31-year-old comedian has expressed disbelief at his appointment.
"You don't believe it for the first few hours," he said. "You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you're in a place where you can't really get alcohol."
Stewart is happy at Trevor’s appointment as his successor, and in a statement said, "I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with."
Trevor Noah’s appointment to the show as a non-American brings diverse and fresh perspective to the program. He promises to add what he terms youthful vitality and international perspective to the show.
The Daily Show is mainly satirical and by use of humour element, takes a skewed look at current affairs.
