Woman held after claiming Obama follows her on Twitter

New York: New Yorker Kam Brock alleges that she was wrongly detained in a Harlem medical institution for eight days after telling doctors Barack Obama followed her on Twitter.

Medical professionals interpreted her claim as a sign she was delusional and suffering from bipolar disorder, even though it was true.

The United States president follows 664,000 people on the social network, so the statement certainly shouldn't have seemed that far-fetched.

Brock's ordeal started when she visited a police station in an attempt to retrieve her prized BMW, which had earlier been seized by the NYPD.

Officers had apparently taken the vehicle as they suspected she was high on cannabis. Brock's attorney alleges that police didn't find any drugs in her possession but confiscated the car anyway.

According to an NY Daily News report, the Long Island resident - who is described as "eccentric" - admits she was "emotional" but insists she was not "emotionally disturbed" when she visited the station.

Police officers clearly disagreed - they put her in handcuffs and sent her to a nearby psych facility.

She claims that when she was arrived she was heavily sedated by doctors.

A lawsuit she's filed states: "next thing you know, the police held onto me, the doctor stuck me with a needle and I was knocked out."

"I woke up to them taking off my underwear and then went out again. I woke up the next day in a hospital robe."

Brock says she told doctors Obama followed her on Twitter to prove "the type of person I am. I’m a good person, a positive person. Obama follows positive people."

Medical records show that she was indeed held for eight days, and in this time "attended group therapy, endured injections of sedatives, and took lorazepam and lithium."

Doctors at Harlem Hospital listed stating Obama does not follow her on Twitter as a goal in her "master treatment plan" - but apparently didn't bother checking if she was telling the truth.

She claims that when she was eventually released eight days later, hospital staff didn't tell her what had changed.

To make things even worse, the facility then billed Brock $13,637.10 for the treatment she received while she was forcibly detained.

The New York resident has filed a lawsuit claiming the cost of treatment plus unspecified damages.
