Eldas parents angry with cancelled results

Wajir, Kenya: Angry parents and residents of Eldas constituency in Wajir County are concerned about poor performance and cancelled results in both Eldas boys secondary and the girl’s high school in the KCSE examination results released last week.

Eldas sub-county produced the only public school in Wajir county, Eldas Boys Secondary School, whose entire results were cancelled, while other schools posted poor results in the national examination.

Angry parents and constituents want measures taken to curb the worrying trend of poor performance and examination irregularities in the area.

Some of the parents attributed the poor performance to lack of teachers in the secondary school.

Speaking in Wajir, Elnur county representative Salat Maalim said that Eldas Boys school has only one teacher who is employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Some of the residents blamed their area MP Adan Keynan for focusing too much on national and county politics forgetting his key role of improving service delivery in the constituency, including improving education in the area.

“Our MP is busy introducing controversial bills in the national assembly like who should fly flags, which is of no benefit to us, instead of focusing his energy on bills that can improve the teacher ratio for schools in places like Eldas,” said Suldana Ali, a parent of one of the students whose results were cancelled in the 2014 national examinations.

However, Eldas MP Adan Keynan pointed an accusing finger at the Kenya National Examination Council claiming that the examination body did not clearly explain why the results of Islamic Religious Studies for all the candidates were cancelled.

“We will seek legal redress because even the national examination body has to be accountable,” said Keynan while addressing the media in Nairobi.

Eldas boys secondary school was formed in 2006.
