Orie Rogo Manduli  is inviting men to woo her two daughters

Flamboyant Orie Rogo-Manduli is inviting men to woo her two daughters, Alison and Janice.

She made the announcement a year after her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Rogo, wedded a Ghanaian.

Speaking to The Nairobian, the woman who once said “style is Orie!” said the type of men for her girls “must be understanding, loving, respectful and faithful. If they are not, I will throw them out myself!”

She also insisted that the potential in-laws must be independent.

Not Siamese twins

“If he is not independent, then what is he coming to do? To live off my daughter and finally me? We are poor, but hardworking. I don’t cure poverty, so I expect a man to take care of my daughters comfortably.”

The activist and former politician will not allow drunkards and violent men near her daughters. She says she will encourage her daughters to ‘walk’ if any of that happens.

Orie who claims to have had a tumultuous first marriage experience, confessed that the father of her daughters put her through so much suffering that she would not even mention his name to the world.

“Couples are not Siamese twins. They can separate if things don’t work out. I don’t want my daughters to be killed by a man,’’ said the former Miss Kenya.

Although she is encouraging men to woo her daughters, Orie insists they must like them first.

“I want them to write their own script, fall in love on their own without my interference, because at the end of the day, they are the ones who would live with the men.”

Orie’s second marriage was to Zambian minister, the late Norman Manduli. This seems to have set a trend as her eldest daughter got married to a Ghanaian. This, however, does not mean she is specific about her daughters getting married to foreigners.

“It does not really matter whether they get married to foreigners. A man is defined by his character and not his ethnicity or nationality,” she said, adding that there should be a specific time limit for dating.

“While one year is a very short time for to fully familiarise with  a partner’s character, I think people should not go beyond three years.”

Orie is also asking aspiring sons-in-law not to be scared of her while approaching her daughters.

“I make an awesome mother-in-law. Just ask Nana (Elizabeth’s husband)!”
