Western Kenya leaders eye 4.5m voters

Key Western Kenya leaders, led by former presidential contestant Musalia Mudavadi (UDF), Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale (UDF) and his Bungoma counterpart Moses Wetang’ula (Ford- Kenya) have forged a deal to register 4.5 million eligible voters.

The leaders who were speaking at the funeral of Jacob Manyala, the father of former Lurambi MP Manyala Keya in Eluwesero Kakamega, said that their constant infightings were derailing their efforts for a united community.

Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe (UDF) said it is time Luhya leaders worked together to clinch the presidency.

Mudavadi said he is impressed with the voice of Luhya leaders, among them Shinyalu MP Bernard Shinali (UDF) and Lugari MP Ayub Savula (UDF) harnessing votes.

Mudavadi at the same time regretted that many ID’s are lying idle at the chief’s offices and urged residents to go pick them in readiness for 2017. He distanced himself from JAP and blamed his people of letting him down in 2103, saying “My colleagues inspired me to vie for presidency, but they left me alone, however, I am not giving up.”

He also distanced himself from claims that he is supporting JAP. “UDF is not in JAP, this culture of people putting words into my mouth should stop,” he stated.

Khalwale on the other, called upon Mudavadi’s to pursue his presidential ambitions with zeal, and not to relent.
Wetangu’la noted that he and Khalwale will lead a 4.5 million vote hunt in Western.

“We will ensure every constituency has a motorbike and two youth, who will walk door-to-door to ensure eligible residents acquire ID and voter registration cards,” said Wetangu’la.

The Bungoma Senator also asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to evenly initiate development projects countrywide for the benefit of all Kenyans.
