William Kabogo: Critics out to sabotage my re-election in 2017 polls

Kiambu, Kenya: Governor William Kabogo has said MPs and members of the county assembly (MCAs) who have been fighting him want to make it difficult for him to be re-elected in 2017.

Speaking as he launched the Kiahuria water project in Juja yesterday, Mr Kabogo said he would not be drawn into cheap politics but would focus instead on rolling out his development agenda.

Kabogo also accused the MPs of inciting residents not to pay levies.

The governor extended an olive branch to leaders critical of him and his administration, saying he was ready to work with them for the sake of development.

"It is a new year and there is no need for unnecessary politics. I am open to ideas and suggestions from my fellow leaders from the area on moving the county forward," said Kabogo.

But Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw'a said the refusal by the governor and his administration to involve area leaders in the county's affairs was the source of the discord.
