University set to launch development book

 Kenya: Catholic University will host the launch of a book on development authored by researchers drawn from its faculty members today.

The book titled ‘Paths of Development’ is a poverty research project and highlights the Catholic Church as a partner in poverty alleviation through various means, especially self-help projects. Most Rev Zacchaeus Okoth, the Archbishop of Kisumu and Chairman of Justice and Peace Commission, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) is expected to be the chief guest at the launch.

Most Rev Martin Kivuva Musonde, Archbishop-elect of Mombasa will also grace the occasion. The research findings in this book reveal that the Catholic Church-based programmes had an edge in reaching the very poor.

This does not mean that the Catholic Church is very rich but the approach employed was able to reach the very poor due to the criteria used in recruitment of members of the self-help groups. The research was facilitated by Rev John Lukwata (the local project director) now of department of Sacred Liturgy, Faculty of Theology CUEA.
