Joy as hospital receives 11 newborns

It was a special Christmas for nine mothers at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital after they were blessed with bouncing babies.

Two mothers delivered twins just after midnight and could not hide their joy as they cuddled the newborns.

A nurse at the Maternity Ward Wilitah Kirui, said eleven babies were born in the hospital with two women giving birth to sets of twin boys. "Seven mothers had normal deliveries whereas two underwent operation (Caesarian Section) and by mid-day eight boys and three girls had joined the world," she said.

Among the mothers was Ann Cheruto, a resident of Baraka Estate in Nakuru who gave birth to twin boys. Ms Cheruto, who delivered her twins through the caesarian section could not hide her joy. "Nimefurahi sana. Kama kuna mtu amebahatibaka ni mimi." (I am so happy. I think I am among the blessed during this Christmas season)," she said adding that she never expected to give birth to twins.

She named the babies Emmanuel and Joshua. Another mother Beth Wanjiru, also named one of her twin boys Emmanuel. Gladys Adhiambo said her prayers were answered after she gave birth at midnight to a bouncing baby boy.
