Toddler seriously hurt after being hit by a car driven by the mother

Glasgow:  A toddler has been left seriously hurt after being hit by a car believed to have been driven by her mother.

Emma Perkins, 19 months, was thought to have followed her Morag Guthrie mum out the family home when she went to move her partner’s car.

As Morag manoeuvred the vehicle, it is thought she accidentally hit Emma. The tot suffered serious injuries and was taken to Raigmore hospital in Inverness.

She was later airlifted to Yorkhill hospital in Glasgow, where she was in a stable condition last night.

Morag, and her partner Alan Perkins, both 46, were keeping a vigil at her bedside.

The accident happened in the Smithton area of Inverness on Saturday afternoon.

It is thought Emma followed Morag out of the front door when she went to move Alan’s car.

Police appealed for anyone who might have seen the accident to get in touch.

They said: “About 4.39pm on Saturday, the Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland were?made aware of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle and a pedestrian in the Smithton area.

“As a result of the collision, a 19-month-old girl was conveyed by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Morag is originally from Kirriemuir in Angus.

She studied at the Forth Valley College of Nursing and Midwifery.
