Bector triumphs in 'Tembea Kenya' golf at Vet Lab course

Mukesh Bector beat a large field of 168 players to emerge the overall winner during the sixth leg of Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) sponsored 'Tembea Kenya' Golf Series at the par 72 Vet Lab Golf Club.

Bector, playing off handicap 22, amassed 42 stableford points to rule the roost. He posted 19 stableford points in the first nine before registering an impressive 23 stableford points in the back nine.

Mukesh's brother V. Bector, playing off handicap 28, was the men's winner on 40 stableford points with 19 points in the front nine and 20 in the back nine.

Handicap 13, Benjamin Wamahiu, settled for the men runner-up position on 39 points (17, 22) after beating James Waibochi on countback. Waibochi, playing off handicap 28, finished third on 39 points (18, 21) ahead of handicap 15 Mavji Gorasia on 38 points (19, 19).

Veteran lady golfer Mary Karano, playing off handicap six, emerged the lady winner on 33 points and handicap 15, Mercy Kebaara, was the lady runners-up on 32 points.

K. Musyoki, playing handicap 24, won the guest prize on 35 points, while handicap 28 Harshi Gorassi took the first nine prize on 22 points. Niral Shah, playing as handicap nine, won the second nine prize on 21 points.

Allan Njoroge, handicap 27, was the staff winner on 21 points while Dorcas Mukabi had the nearest to the pin title.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, Walya Wausi, the KTB Public Relations and Communications Manager lauded the good turnout and said KTB, together with its partners in the tourism industry, have in the recent past put enhanced focus on the marketing of the golf product to both domestic and international tourists.

"It is for this reason that we have this year launched the 'Tembea Kenya' golf series that will see KTB sponsor events at clubs across the country. So far we have visited Limuru, Nyali, Nakuru and Nyanza," said Wausi.

"Kenya is famed worldwide for its sports prowess in the areas of athletics and rugby and it is with this spirit that KTB has taken up the promotion of sports tourism a notch higher. Kenya has 40 golf courses across the country located in very diverse areas of the country, a few of of them have even hosted international tournaments."

From Vet Lab, the 'Tembea Kenya' golf moves to Eldoret Golf Club for the final leg on December 20.
