Police probing death of female city lawyer

Nairobi, Kenya: A female city lawyer died yesterday under unclear circumstances in Nairobi’s Buru Buru estate.

Linda Wanjiku, 27, a mother of one, died after what is suspected to be a domestic brawl with her husband. According to Diana Irungu, the deceased’s younger sister, Wanjiku, fought with her husband before she collapsed sustaining head injuries.

Diana says she (Wanjiku) arrived home late in the night and the husband was furious.

“When Linda arrived, her husband was angry and threatened to kill her. She entered her car and tried to escape but her husband jumped into the passenger seat and pushed her out. My sister lay down unconscious. I pleaded with him to take her to hospital,” Diana said.

Diana said when she noticed what had happened, she called her father and brother who lived in the nearby estate.

They came and rushed the lawyer to the nearby Jamaa Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Buru Buru OCPD Richard Kerich said they are waiting for a post-mortem report to establish the real cause of death.

“The young woman died in hospital and we are yet to know the cause of death. I am told she had an injury but let’s not speculate,” said Kerich.

Her husband who runs a bar in Buruburu was arrested by police for further questioning.

According to her mother, Anita Irungu, her second born daughter had complained that her husband was violent.

Neighbours said there was commotion from the house on Friday morning. They said the family had domestic problems but they never thought that it will be tragic.

Friends and neighbours who gathered outside her Buru Buru house described the deceased as humble.
