Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana asks Kalonzo to support dissolution of the County

Embattled Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has asked Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support the dissolution of the county government.

Prof Kibwana said there is no other durable solution apart from fresh polls. He made the call as 47 governors head to State House today to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta where the Makueni County wrangles form part of the agenda.

“Those who love Makueni must join together in the movement for the salvation of Makueni,” said Kibwana. “Makueni is bigger than all actors in this  ‘tragic drama’. If Makueni residents told me to resign as a solution, I would do so the same day”.

More than 30,000 Makueni residents have petitioned President Kenyatta to dissolve the County government over persistent wrangles between the executive and the assembly. The petition was handed over to the office of the president two weeks ago.

In a statement to the media, the Governor accused the County Assembly of going on recess without passing the 2014/2015 budget based on the lawful ceilings established by the national assembly.  Prof Kibwana said the government of Makueni will receive no single shilling from the Treasury from January.

“The County Assembly has itself effectively hastened the dissolution of the government by failing to pass the 2014/2015 budget,” said the Governor.
