By Anne Kisang (anne_kisang)

Oscar award winner Lupita Nyong'o, who took Hollywood by storm for her role in 12 years A Slave, showed the world that she is still in touch with her Kenyan roots. Lupita posted a photo on Facebook of her dinner which comprised of ugali and sukumawiki using the hashtag #homesick.

This photo sparked a lot debate amongst Kenyans, South Africans and Nigerians, each giving the meal a name.

Naturally, Kenyans took it upon themselves to own the meal by insisting the dish was East African. They even called out Mexicans telling them that this was evidence Lupita is Kenyan and not Mexican as they claimed.

Here are some of the comments;

Eddie Ken Kenyan: This is Kenyan food not Nigerian. So guys drop this fufu word. It is Ugali.

Omphile Sharone Nakedi: It’s also Botswana food and South African food!!! Mosoko le morogo kana phaleche le morogo!

Kubania Lameque B: What’s wrong with these Nigerians. In my Kenyan tribe, fufu means human waste.

Shiku Wa Gicheru: Mexicans who like claiming that she's Mexican, can they tell us what food this is??

Kubania Lameque B: Hey listen guys. That’s ugali and sukuma wiki...stop that collard crap. Its sukuma wiki.

Faith Constatine: It doesn’t look Mexican it’s because she is Kenyan and that’s Kenyan traditional food

Ekaete Udoffia: That’s looks like fufu & veggie soup

Njeri Wakame: Nigerians eat it too but they call it something else

Rena Thomas: I eat eagle and kales all the time! My Kenyan friends introduced this to me! So healthy and delicious!

Patricia Temba: Most AFRICANs eat this, even in SA pap/porrige & morogo/spinach. I'd say it’s an African dish

Shatho Joy Robinson: Pap and morogo in South Africa and Botswana, Sadza ne muriwo in Zimbabwe, Nshima in Malawi and Zambia, Ugali and sukuma wiki in Kenya and Tanzania and Fufu i guess in West Africa, Nigeria and Ghana

Sarah Chung: Ugali and sukuma wiki ni tamu sana! I miss Kenya

Spinoza Ochieng: The name of this food has a meaning in Kenya. Ugali - sukuma wiki. Literally meaning - ''Push the week '' The vegetable is called sukuma wiki- push the week. It's food for a rainy day. But as they say In Africa, Rainy days never come to an end, so we eat this often. For those who have never tasted UGALI, it will be tasteless in your mouth heheheheheheheheh. Only water is used in cooking it. We just love it that way.

Mwangy Mali: This I love we call it nshima in Zambia

Lilliana Ochieng: You are a true African and you haven't forgotten where you came from.

Waudo Wa Munyasa: Ugali is plenty here Lupita Nyong'o...just come back home...we are eagerly waiting to celebrate you! Karibu Nyumbani

Antony Kariuki: Kudos! They say east or west home is the best....one not forgetting his/her own #ROOTS. Blessed love mama Africa.

Priscilla Nyatito Sadza: We call it us Zimbabweans remember its nice using hands not knife and fork please lol

Destiny Cunningham: Similar food we eat in Nigeria, pounded yam and egusi or ogbolo soup.

Frank Leo: Sembe Jo! Craving vibaya sana! Made me homesick Kat!
