Officers impound Government vehicle out on unassigned duty

Government Vehicle Check Unit officers from Nairobi yesterday arrested a Government driver for misusing a vehicle assigned to him.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was intercepted while taking his son to school along Uganda Road in Eldoret.

The officers sensed something was wrong when the driver failed to stop at a check point, prompting them to give chase.

They caught up with him after about 21km.

"We intercepted the driver belonging to one of the ministries along Uganda Road opposite Kiptagich Building. When we stopped him, he defied the order and sped off prompting a chase," said Peter Limo, the operation co-ordinator.

Limo said the driver did not have proper documentation and also failed to provide valid reasons for using the car for private work.

"The rules are very clear that a government driver must book in their travels in their worksheet, before being allowed to go out," Limo added.
