Wycliffe Balaa breezed to the tape in 57 seconds to lift the men’s 100m at the Senate and National Assembly’s Joint Services Games national trials at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, yesterday.

Balaa was closely followed by Daniel Namachanja (57.10) and Evans Owino (57.23) in second and third place respectively.

Balaa went ahead to win the men’s 200m in 1 minute and 30 seconds. He was 20 seconds ahead of 200m women’s winner Winnie Morogo.

Violet Andaruki won the women’s 100m in 59.23. She was followed by Morogo (59.28) while Faith Ndeto settled for third place in 59.44.

David Lang’at faced stiff challenge from Lukas Mutua to win the men’s 400m race. Mercy Ngavi and Cynthia Chemiryo were the two top finishers, in that order, in the women’s 400m.

Men’s 1500m was won by Jimmy Rogers as Ruth Nampole topped in the women’s category. Catherine Lolim and Rogers emerged 800m champions.

Those who excelled in men’s 1,500m walking race were Bruce Kiprotich, Namachanja and Bernard Kosgei in that order. Women’s walking race was won by Christabel Wasilwa who was closely followed by Faith Ndeto and Agnes Mbithe.

In Tug of War, Green Army beat Blue Force 2-1 to lift the men’s crown. It was also the same result recorded in the women’s tug of war contest for the same teams.

In netball, Green Commandoes edged Blue Shield 8-6 after a see-saw affair that resulted to a 5-5 tie at the break.

TOUGH CONTEST

“It was a tough contest even though the Greens managed to break the barrier in the last two quarters to carry the day,” noted Kenya Netball Federation chairperson Lillian Anupi who oversaw the netball contest.

In football, Red Scorpions edged Yellow Men 1-0 to carry the day in men’s category as Hard Hitters edged Lethal Stars by a similar margin in the women’s category during the trials which saw participants take part in darts, table tennis, swimming and other indoor games.

“It was a nice day out for the National Assembly and Senate’s joint services employees. We had great opportunity to interact and know each other well, ‘said Bunge FC player Elijah Ichwara.

Yesterday’s games were meant to select teams to represent the Senate and National Assembly for this Friday’s Joint Services Games at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.
