The Standard Group County Golf Classic series heads for the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club tomorrow.

The contest has attracted over 150 golfers drawn from Nakuru Golf Club, Njoro, Nyahururu, Gilgil, Naivasha and guests from Nairobi clubs.

Contestants to watch are handicap 17 Kamonjo Kiburi, handicap four Paul Muhia, club captain and handicap 14 Steve Kihumba and green keeper Mandeep Shaota who is playing handicap eight.

Expected to raise the bar in the ladies' category are Anne Mathenge, Clem Muli and Florence Kamonjo. The juniors to watch are Anoop Shahota, Tevin Kihumba and Dan Njenga while long hitters Luther Kamau, Engineer Cherono and Kimani Karanja will be fighting it out for the longest drive contest.

According to Shahota, the course is well prepared to host the prestigious tournament tomorrow.

"The fairways are green and well trimmed, although the greens are fast. For one to beat the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club, one has to keep to the fairways all through," Shahota said.

The golf club has some of the most challenging holes including hole number two which is a par four contest with a tree to the approach of the fairway.

Hole number seven, a par four stroke index one, will equally be challenging as it has a dog leg right, has a fairway bunker and a tree to beat as you approach the green.

"Leading the staff at the event are Joseph Yego from Nakuru, Salim Bwika of Commercial department, finance Director Olando Liomu and Sammy Mose of Nyeri Bureau," said golf consultant John Ngaruiya.
