Kabete MP George Muchai accuses COTU of misusing Sh190 billion, workers money

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) deputy Secretary General George Muchai has moved to court seeking orders to freeze the giant worker's union bank accounts.

Mr Muchai alleges that there has been rampant embezzlement, misappropriation and mismanagement of worker's deductions which translate into Sh 190 billion.

Muchai who is also Kabete MP is asking the Labour Relations court to direct the registrar of trade unions to audit the accounts of COTU.

Mr Muchai has disclosed in the court pleadings that COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli is operating 13 secret accounts which he wants the court to order six commercial banks to reveal those behind the opening of the suspicious accounts.

Over the past few weeks, Mr Muchai and Mr Atwoli have been engaged in cut-throat litigation in which he (Mr Muchai) is seeking Sh 200 Million in defamation from Atwoli. He says Mr Atwoli has disparaged his character and is asking the High Court to compel the vocal secretary general to pay him for defamation.
