Eight Machakos county officials arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over graft released on bond

Machakos, Kenya: At least eight senior officials at the Machakos County were Monday evening arrested in an operation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The officials who include those from procurement and accounts departments have being released on a 5 million bond each and a surety of 1m . The case will be mentioned on November 12, 2014  They are facing various charges related to graft.

This follows investigations into allegations of corruption at the County. EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro said they are still going on with investigations into claims of corruption in procurement of goods at the County.

“Investigations are ongoing and you will see more arrests there. The ones who were arrested will be in court later,” he said.

Two others are suppliers of goods at the County. They are accused of exaggerating the prices of laptops that were supplied to the County.

Governor Alfred Mutua is among those who have recorded statements with EACC over allegations of graft in procurement of goods at the County including vehicles. His file on the probe has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for action. Mutua denies any wrong doing in the allegations.
